Polyester needlefelt PNF1 is a thin intermediate pad at 500 gsm over just 3 mm thickness, reinforced with a scrim. High density at low height is its distinguishing feature.
Dense rather than thick
500 gsm over 3 mm means very compact fibre packing. The pad adds almost no build-up yet distributes pressing force evenly and levels out small plate irregularities. For flat build-ups this is often the only practical solution.
Dimensional stability through the scrim
The integrated fabric insert absorbs tensile forces. The felt therefore does not stretch during fitting and keeps its dimensions after many pressing cycles, which matters when the pad has been cut to an exact size.
Application limits
As a polyester quality, PNF1 is rated to roughly 150 °C continuously. For higher temperatures the aramid qualities NXNF1 or NXNF49 are the correct choice. Invoiced in square metres; one running metre equals 1.6 m².

Is a 3 mm pad sufficient?
For flat build-ups and level plates, yes. On strongly contoured plates, thicker qualities such as PNF2 or PNF15 are better suited.
Can I combine two layers of PNF1?
Yes, that works when more padding height is needed but opening height is limited.
Is PNF1 steam permeable?
Yes, the needlefelt structure lets steam pass, though less than open spacer fabrics.
