GN12 is a coarse, natural cotton cover fabric weighing 260 gsm, available in 192 cm and 230 cm width. It is the heavy option among cotton top covers and belongs wherever high surface pressure and large working widths come together.
Which machines is GN12 intended for?
Primarily calenders, trough ironers and large-format ironing tables in commercial and hotel laundries. Widths of 192 cm and 230 cm allow the roller or table top to be covered in one piece, with no seam that could leave a mark in the linen. The quality is also used as a robust catch cover in textile cleaning operations.
What does the higher weight achieve?
At 260 gsm, GN12 is around 40 % heavier than the standard N1 cloth. The coarse yarn and denser construction absorb more moisture, harden more slowly under steam and withstand mechanical abrasion for longer. On calenders, where the cover runs constantly over the roller, exactly this abrasion resistance determines service life.
Cutting, fixing and replacement
GN12 is supplied in 60 m pieces and sold from one running metre. For calender wrapping the fabric is applied spirally or with an overlap and sewn or clamped at the ends. On ironing tables allow around 15 cm extra per side for fixing with a draw string or tension springs.

Which width should I choose?
As a rule of thumb: the working width of the machine plus twice the wrap-around. 192 cm covers most standard calenders, 230 cm the large trough ironers.
Is GN12 heat resistant enough for calenders?
Natural cotton withstands roughly 150 °C continuously. For higher trough temperatures, Nomex qualities such as NN1 or NN2 are the correct choice.
Why natural instead of bleached?
Unbleached cotton contains no optical brighteners and yellows far more slowly under heat.
