PFA welding film TSF21 is a thermoplastic fluoropolymer film that melts on heating and joins PTFE fabric belts permanently. Available in 25 and 50 mm width on rolls of 90 metres.
Why PFA and not adhesive
PTFE is practically impossible to bond with adhesive; the very non-stick property that distinguishes the material in service prevents an adhesive joint. PFA is chemically related but melts at a lower temperature. It therefore fuses with the PTFE and forms a material-to-material, heat-resistant joint.
How an endless belt is made
The belt ends are placed together mitred or butted, the welding film is positioned between or over them, and the joint is welded under pressure and heat, usually with a welding press or a heated bar. Once cooled, the seam is load bearing.
Width and ordering
25 mm suits narrow belts and repairs, 50 mm wide belts and more heavily loaded seams. Supplied in full rolls of 90 metres.

What temperature does welding require?
The exact temperature depends on the welding equipment; PFA melts well below the decomposition temperature of PTFE.
Is the seam as strong as the belt?
Executed cleanly the seam achieves high strength but remains the load-limiting point.
Why only complete rolls?
The film is converted into a sealed 90 metre roll.
