Polyester cover fabric D4 is a natural top cover made from 100 % polyester at 265 gsm and 160 cm width. Where cotton covers harden quickly under steam and pressure, polyester plays out its dimensional stability.
Why polyester instead of cotton?
Polyester barely swells when wet and dries faster between pressing cycles. As a result the cover stays soft for longer, does not crust over and keeps its surface structure. On presses running two or three shifts this noticeably extends replacement intervals.
Technical data and limits
At 265 gsm, D4 is one of the heavy top covers. Polyester withstands roughly 150 °C continuously; for higher contact temperatures, Nomex qualities are the correct choice. The natural finish contains no optical brighteners that could decompose under heat.
Handling and ordering
D4 is supplied in 60 m pieces and sold from one running metre. For upper and lower press plates, allow the plate dimensions plus about 12 cm of wrap-around per side. Fixing is by tension springs, draw string or clamping strips.

Is D4 steam permeable?
Yes. The weave lets steam pass through and removes residual moisture faster than cotton because the fibre itself absorbs almost no water.
Which machines suit D4?
Pressing machines, ironing tables and fusing presses with contact temperatures up to approximately 150 °C.
Is D4 available in blue?
The smooth blue version is the polyester cover fabric D8 at 210 gsm.
